Burl Elwood Preston, of Rockwall, TX, born February 21, 1922, in Stevenson, Maryland, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 31, 2015, at the age of 93. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Burrell and Nettie Pauline Preston, of Glen Burnie, Maryland; one step-sister, Myrtle Reister and one brother, Archie Preston of Baltimore, MD; and his wife, Wilma, who passed away in 2008. He is survived by his daughter, Gail Zachary and husband Sonny of Heath, Texas; grandsons, Scott Zachary and wife, Heather of Plano, Texas; and Jason...

Burl Elwood Preston, of Rockwall, TX, born February 21, 1922, in Stevenson, Maryland, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 31, 2015, at the age of 93. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Burrell and Nettie Pauline Preston, of Glen Burnie, Maryland; one step-sister, Myrtle Reister and one brother, Archie Preston of Baltimore, MD; and his wife, Wilma, who passed away in 2008. He is survived by his daughter, Gail Zachary and husband Sonny of Heath, Texas; grandsons, Scott Zachary and wife, Heather of Plano, Texas; and Jason Zachary and wife Jenny, of Denver, Colorado. He is also survived by five great-grandsons, Noah, Luke and Caleb Zachary of Plano and Parker and Tyler Zachary of Denver. Great-grandson number six is due in May.

Burl retired from Dixie Cup/James River in 1984 after 27 years of service. He was an avid golfer from the age of 13 when he learned to play while working as a bag boy at Woodhome Country Club in Baltimore. He served in the US Army from 1942 - 1946. While he was stationed at Camp Chaffee, he met his wife, Wilma. The last three years of her life, Burl served as an incomparable caregiver and their love for each other was obvious to all who saw them. Burl was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ft. Smith for 64 years. Visitation will be from 2:00-3:00 PM, Sunday, April 5, at the Fentress Mortuary chapel with graveside service at the National Cemetery at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 6.

Honorary pallbearers will be Scott, Jason, Noah, Luke, Caleb, Parker, and Tyler Zachary, Ronnie Coleman, Carl Riggins, Bill Lovett, and Bill George.
